PSR stands for Periodontal Screening and Recording . This type of periodontal exam allows you to record an overall score or rating for each sextant within the mouth in lieu of a complete periodontal exam and detailed charting. This screening is a quick and simple way to evaluate and track a patient’s periodontal health, as well as determine the need for a more comprehensive exam.
Since the ADA estimates that over 75% of all adults show some form of periodontal disease, and litigation due to lack of periodontal diagnosis is not uncommon, this type of examination is very valuable. A PSR chart can be completed on a routine basis even when a complete periodontal exam is not required. To easily monitor any changes in the patient’s periodontal condition, various PSR charts can be compared and viewed on screen or printed to paper.
